Many Duelist players will make the same early mistake: treating every stance skill as a separate button instead of part of a planned sequence. That approach can waste attacks, delay damage, and consume valuable Path of Exile 2 Currency on gear that does not support the chosen rhythm. The Duelist is built around creating an opening, entering Ready Stance, and selecting the payoff that fits the target in front of you.

Read the Stance Before Attacking

Ready Stance is best understood as a temporary preparation state. Its value comes from what happens next, so activating it without a clear follow-up can make the rotation feel slower than a simple repeated attack. The key decision is whether the next action should clear several enemies or concentrate pressure on one durable target.

Sand Stance leads into Sand Scour, which sends broad swirling sand discs through enemies. Blood Stance, reached through Bloodied Blade, changes the pattern by working with Default Attack to create a blood wave that causes bleeding. Perforate adds another choice, interacting with the stance system for a close-range stabbing sequence and, with Blood Stance, smaller blood novas.

- Use Sand Stance when several enemies are grouped and movement between packs matters.

- Reserve Blood Stance for targets that can remain in range long enough for bleeding and repeated physical pressure to matter.

- Treat Perforate as a deliberate payoff rather than an automatic button after every setup.

Choose the Build Around Its Job

A Sand-focused Duelist is the clearer option for players who value quick area pressure during regular map play. Its limitation is that a wide clearing tool may not provide the best value against a single Rare Monster or boss. A Blood-focused setup is more appealing to players who prefer sustained physical damage and are comfortable fighting at close range, but it demands better positioning and timing.

Weapon selection should follow that decision. Attack speed supports repeated attacks and frequent bleed application, while higher base damage may suit a burst sequence. Range and the speed at which a weapon allows the next stance transition also matter. Comparing only the largest damage figure can produce a weapon that looks strong on paper but interrupts the actual rotation.

For resources, prioritize flexible upgrades until the intended stance pattern feels reliable. Save valuable currency for equipment that improves the complete sequence, rather than replacing one item for a small increase to a single attack. Early experimentation has greater long-term value when it reveals which skills your character will continue using later.

Plan Progression in Three Stages

The Duelist's progression should change as enemy durability and encounter length increase. A practical order keeps the build responsive while preserving room for later specialization.

During the early game, establish Ready Stance and test whether Sand Scour or Perforate solves most of your immediate problems.
In the mid-game, separate your mapping sequence from your Rare Monster sequence and spend resources on the weapon traits that support both situations.
In the late game, judge the build by damage uptime, positioning demands, and the number of actions required before each meaningful payoff.

This approach prevents a common farming error: using a complete boss rotation on ordinary packs. If Sand Scour already clears the group, move immediately instead of repeating the setup. Against a boss, the same preparation may be worthwhile only when the target stays close long enough to receive the full Perforate or bleeding sequence.

Know the Confirmed Use Cases

The current information supports a clear PVE identity for the Duelist, especially in mapping, Rare Monster encounters, and boss fights. There is not enough confirmed information to make a specific PVP recommendation, so players should avoid valuing the class around imagined player-versus-player interactions. The practical choice is between efficient area pressure, close-range physical damage, or a hybrid that changes its payoff according to the target.

A hybrid plan can offer better long-term value if it avoids forcing one stance into every encounter. Sand-based attacks can handle ordinary groups, while Blood Stance and Perforate can be saved for tougher enemies. That flexibility costs more attention and may require more careful resource planning, but it reduces the need to rebuild whenever the farming target changes.

Players considering poe 2 buy currency should first identify the stance they actually use most, then improve the weapon and supporting gear around that decision. The Duelist arrives with Path of Exile 2's full 1.0 release on December 11, while the Forbidden Rites event offers an earlier look at its design. The strongest preparation is therefore not copying one attack, but learning when each combat state earns its cost.
